Do I have to register my home battery?
Yes, if the power is 0.8 kilowatt (800 W) or more. RVO writes: do you have a battery system with a power of 0.8 kilowatt (kW) or more? Then you must register it. A home battery then falls under type A: greater than or equal to 0.8 kW and less than 1 MW.
RVO does not mention plug-and-play models separately, the threshold is the power. The models in our shop deliver 800 W or more to the grid by default (800 VA for the Hoymiles); you find that under "Vermogen net" (grid power) in the specifications on the product page. So expect registration to apply to you. If you are unsure about your model, check the power in the specifications and ask energieleveren.nl or your grid operator. This is not legal advice.
Why register?
According to RVO, you help keep the electricity grid safe and stable. Grid operators get an overview of where batteries are and how much power they have, and you comply with European and Dutch rules. You can read more about batteries and the grid in home battery and grid congestion.
Which details do you need at hand?
In a message of 17 September 2024, grid operator Coteq lists the following details (Coteq Netbeheer). Which fields energieleveren.nl asks for exactly, you will see on that website itself. If you have these details at hand, you can complete the registration in one go, according to Coteq.
| Detail | Unit or explanation |
|---|---|
| EAN code of the connection | code of your connection |
| Make and type of the inverter | make and type |
| Total power of the batteries | kW |
| Total capacity of the batteries | kWh |
| AC or output power of the inverter | kW |
| Date put into operation | date the installation was put into operation |
Step by step
Step 1: look up your battery's details. Brand, type and power (W or kW) are under "Specificaties" (specifications) on the product page. The manual or the invoice also contain these details.
Step 2: keep your address and your installation details at hand. Which fields energieleveren.nl asks for, you will see on that website itself. What grid operator Coteq lists is in the table above.
Step 3: go to energieleveren.nl and register your home battery there. From 7 May 2024 you can register a home battery (type A) yourself via Energieleveren.nl.
Step 4: enter the details and complete the registration. Keep the confirmation, or a screenshot if there is no confirmation, with your proof of purchase.
Step 5: registered before 7 May 2024? Then you must enter the battery there again.
Step 6: do you expand later, for example with an extra module or unit? Then check whether your registration still matches the power and capacity you have now. That is our advice; the sources we used name no separate rules for this.
Who registers, and what about your solar panels?
You can register a home battery yourself. Coteq Netbeheer writes that you can also have your installer do this. If you have your battery installed, ask beforehand whether the installer will take care of the registration for you.
For net metering (salderen), your solar panels must be registered via Energieleveren.nl. Your installer can also arrange that for you. If you have not registered your panels yet, check on energieleveren.nl how to do it. Also read what changes on 1 January 2027 in net metering ends in 2027.
